Virtual Support Group for Parents of Adopted and Foster Children


This group provides attachment-focused parenting skills training and support for families with adoption and foster care in their story. The group uses The Connected Child by Karyn Purvis and Traumaplay as resources and training to enhance the attachment bond and deescalate big behaviors. Topics include: Understanding your child's attachment history; Disarming the fear response; Learning to be a “good boss”; Working with defiance; Nurture; Family life balance; Handling setbacks; Healing yourself to heal your child. Group Leader

Brandi Laperriere

Brandi is the co-founder of Grace Nova Counseling and a licensed professional counselor. She specializes in working with children, adolescents, and families. She brings experience working in a variety of settings including schools, churches and private practice.

Brandi believes change is possible and is a process. She believes healing occurs in relationship and the counseling relationship can facilitate growth and change. She is a Registered Play Therapist and is also trained in EMDR with a focus on working with children and families that have experienced trauma. She has received training in Emotionally Focused couples and family therapy.

Brandi works with children, adolescents and families exploring issues of trauma, anxiety, attachment, adoption, depression, body image, grief, separation, divorce, and family system dynamics.

To rest and restore, Brandi spends time with family and friends, reads, walks and enjoys time at Lake Anna. She also loves eating at new and old restaurants in the Washington, D.C. area

Brandi and her husband, Andy, and their five children live in McLean, VA.
