Loretta McCommas

Loretta is a Licensed Professional Counselor.  She has experience working with clients in all stages of life, including adults, adolescents, and couples. She believes that transformation begins when we are able to experience the kindness of another in the darkest parts of our stories. She recognizes the courage it takes to step into the counseling room and creates a safe, supportive environment for her clients to process their stories with curiosity and compassion to help them move towards healing and growth.

As a therapist Loretta is especially passionate about helping those who have experienced trauma, abuse, or neglect.  Her areas of clinical interest also include anxiety, depression, addictions, body image, adolescent struggles, career and life transitions, and relationship concerns.

Loretta uses an integrative therapeutic approach to meet her client’s specific needs and goals, and primarily draws from Psychodynamic (including an attachment-oriented focus) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (for individuals [EFIT] and couples [EFCT]).  She also uses a variety of neuroscience-based trauma-informed techniques to help clients from a holistic perspective (mental, emotional, physical, and/or spiritual), such as mindfulness, emotion regulation skills, and other grounding techniques.

As a long-time Northern Virginian, Loretta understands the unique aspects of living in the DC area. Before changing careers to counseling Loretta worked as a CPA in the accounting field in Northern Virginia for over ten years.

Loretta lives in Fairfax and enjoys spending time with her friends, family, church community, and French Bulldog, Bella. To rest and restore she enjoys exercising and being out in nature.
